After being awarded the commission, I invited the amazingly talented
and brilliant sculptor and builder Rod Garrett, of Oakland California
(and architect of Burning Man) to work with me on all aspects of
implementation. We had a great time.
The project involved a
lot of community participation, and I am forever beholden to the
wonderful people who lent us a hand.

Fruitvale
Plaza Park
is a public art project in the Fruitvale area of Oakland completed
in 1999. My redesign of the corner park at 35th and East 14th in Oakland includes broken mosaic tile work, floor tile, historic narratives an information kiosk for the community and redesign of the entire site for pedestrian flow, functionality and community aesthetics. |
