Artists for Responsible Genetics was an international organization of artists which advocated for the responsible use of the new technologies of bio-engineering.

We adhered to the following principles:

1.  Public information and education around the issues surrounding biotechnology developments, including the seed terminator.
2.  The labelling for all Genetically Engineered Foods and Products.  In this, we support the "Consumer Right to Know Campaign" of Mother's for Natural Law.
3.  A moratorium on cloning of humans.  In this, we support the declaration of Physicians and Scientists for the Responsible Application of Science and Technology.
4.  An immediate ban on the "Seed Terminator" of Monsanto Corporation.  In this, we support the global campaign against the seed terminator of the Erosion, Technology and Control Group, formerly known as the Rural Advancement Foundation International (RAFI).

DECLARATION

Based on the available science, we believe that genetic modification (GM) is much more than just an extension of selective breeding techniques.  It is the actual intervention and engineering of the building blocks of life.

Based on the available science, we believe that not enough is known about the long-term consequences for human health and the environment of releasing plants or animals bred in this way.

Based on the available science, we believe that once introduced into the environment, GM products cannot be recalled, and may introduce a form of pollution that is self-perpetuating.

We are not anti-bioengineering Luddites, rather we support the development by universities, scientists, the Departments of Agriculture and agribusiness of sustainable technologies, organic farming, environmentally sound agriculture, the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Human Genome of UNESCO, and the overwhelming call for a moratorium on cloning and the proliferation of transgenic animals and species.

GM crops are not essential to feed the world's growing populations.
GM animals are not essential to feed the world's growing populations.
GM humans are not essential to the improvement of life on earth.

We stand in unity as artists of the world to oppose this technology
and proclaim the development of sustainable, ecologically sound and humane scientific development.

Rural Advancement Foundation International
RAFI is an international non-governmental organization
dedicated to the conservation and sustainable improvement
of agricultural biodiversity, and to the socially responsible
development of technologies useful to rural societies.
This has the most information on the SEED TERMINATOR,
and loads more on life sciences developments in general.

Mother's for Natural Law
"Genetic engineering is the largest food experiment in the history of the world.
60-70% of the foods on your grocery shelves contain genetically engineered
(GE) components. The FDA estimates that within the next few years 150
new genetically engineered foods will be approved for sale."  Join with
Mother's in their campaign for the rights of consumers to have genetically
engineered foods labelled.

Physicians and Scientists for Responsible Application of Science and Technology
This group of Scientists, Physicians and members work to convince
the world effectively, on available science, that an international
moratorium on the release into nature and use of Geneticially Engingeered
(GE) organisms as food is urgently and inevitably necessary for the safety of
mankind and the global ecosystem.  Please visit their website, and become a
