Memes as Social Practice Residency

I will be doing a new Memes as Social Practice Residency, with the Taking Art to the Streets course in the Environmental Art & Social Practice program of the University of California at Santa Cruz.

This residency combines public and digital art approaches to the meme as a tool for reimagining public perceptions on policing. Over two weeks, students will catalyze dialogue on the prison industrial complex, policing, and abolition while reviewing the histories of meme production, engaging with experimental offline and online exercises, and creating projects utilizing memes as positive world building tools.

We will connect to artists and activists that have reengaged with memes to design future scenarios built on pluralistic visions and dialogues.
